Day one...Life is a beach

We have arrived in California!
Our day started off with a bang. Thank you Ashley for the ride to the airport! Once Ashley dropped us off it began an uphill battle that alone warranted a vacation. The sky cap at the terminal informed us that Cicily's bag was "heavy". Thank goodness I thought of bring an extra bag to the airport just in case we were over weight. From there he informed us that we needed to head to the International terminal... yep that's right a nice long walk from where we were which was so easy with four carry on bags, two kids and a stroller.
Whew!!!! At last we got to the terminal and forgot how much fun the security check point can be. Let's see what can come out of all the bags we had packed...computer, DVD players, video camera and camera. Shoes come off EVERYONE, milk has to be scanned in it's own tote and of course the stroller must be scanned and then we had to walk Zachary through the metal detector. Wait.... we had to have our boarding passes in hand and cannot step more than two feet from our bags (it was like playing a game of twister)! Boy that was fun, can't wait to do that again in seven days! To seal the deal our gate was at the VERY END of the terminal and then we had to board the plane by stairs (I felt like we were flying out of Mayberry).
At last we made it on the plane...
As parents we worried that they were going to have a major meltdown and we would have to try and muzzle two kids for several hours, but we are happy to say that Dimitri and Zachary did GREAT! Our plane was so tiny that if the boys remember this trip we will tell them we hired a private jet for our family vacation (shhhhh our little secret).
We finally landed in Long Beach after our delayed departure from Salt Lake City. It was then we realized how much baggage we brought with us. Two large suitcases, one playpen, two car seats, one stroller, three carry ons, one laptop bag and two children. Thank goodness the car rental was right across the street! When do the kids get to carry their own bags?
To start off the vacation right we decided to go to the beach.

Dimitri is happy to be on vacation.

Dimitri loved playing in the water!
We finished the day by talking Dimitri swimming in the pool. Tomorrow, we are headed back to the beach for some serious playtime and sandcastle building...after all "Life is a beach".

Buon appetite!

Dimitri is making his very own mini pizza and begins with "extra" sauce!

And then the cheese...

this was the hard part since Dimitri
loved eating it.

The finished product!
When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie: that's amore!

What's your name?

Kinda makes me feel bad for the little guy! Just imagine what it is going to be like when the little guy has to spell his entire name (remember his last name alone has 13 letters- that is half of the alphabet)! I guess if we continue to practice with him it should make it a little easier on him. I am sure that he is doing better than I did!
I bet you can guess he is GREEK!
OPA!

Potty Training Part I

Dimitri is making great strides in potty training. Some people thought it was fantastic that we started training him at 18 months and others thought we were simply crazy and he was too young to learn. We are pleased to announce that after five months we think it is going GREAT!!! Dimitri only wears a diaper twice a day at nap time and bedtime. When we have to run errands he is in a pull up! Now, we don't know how all of this works after all, he is our first child (aka guinea pig) but we are very happy with the results considering he turned 2 in June! Dimitri is very smart and catches on quickly! We still have a few challenges but we are learning together!

Zachary Alexander

On September 16, 2008 Zachary climbed the stairs all by himself! Our littlest guy is growing up so fast! It is hard to believe that next month he will be 1! Where has the time gone?

We would also like to announce Zachary no longer has to wear his helmet! The doctor scanned Zachary's head and it has improved! The doctor stated that at this point- it would not help or hinder him since he is active and mobile. So the next time he must wear a helmet lets all hope he is in baseball, football or hockey! Thanks again to EVERYONE for all the love and support-your kindness will never be forgotten!
